Things were perfectly peaceful around here. Then somebody mentioned Halloween, and more importantly, treats.
Suddenly, everyone had an opinion!
The Horses: A Pirate and a Soldier
Dusty: Hey, Cisco. I heard Mom talking about something called “Halloween.” Know anything about it?
Cisco: I think it’s a night when little kids dress up and get extra treats.
Dusty: Treats? As in Rounder Cookies? Peppermints? Those kinds of treats?
Cisco: I’m not sure.
Dusty: Well, find out. This sounds important!
Cisco: There’s a catch. You have to wear a costume.
Dusty: A costume? She knows we prefer to be naked!
Cisco: We don’t even like wearing halters!
Dusty: Still… for enough peppermints, I could reconsider. What would you be?
Cisco: Something neat. Distinguished. Maybe a tuxedo.
Dusty: You’re going trick-or-treating, not attending a board meeting! I’m going to be a pirate!
Cisco: A pirate?
Dusty: Naturally. A little wild. A little handsome. Always looking for treasure.
Cisco: You mean cookies.
Dusty: Treasure comes in many forms. You should be a soldier. You’re always trying to lead and protect everybody.
Cisco: I like it! I could get you into formation. Run you through your paces!
Dusty: Absolutely not! You can’t order a pirate around.
Cisco: Then who’s in charge?
Dusty: Whoever has the treat bucket!

The Goats: Her Royal Highness and the Clown
Dusty: What about you two?
Fawn: I don’t do dress-up.
Hanky: Aw, c’mon! What would you like to be?
Fawn: Myself. I’m already a lady.
Hanky: How about a princess?
Fawn: Well. A crown wouldn’t be entirely inappropriate.
Cisco: Shall we roll out the royal carpet?
Fawn: Finally! Someone who understands!
Hanky: I want to be something fun. Something silly. Something…
Fawn: That requires absolutely no change in your behavior?
Hanky: A clown! Mom already calls me one!
Fawn: How convenient. You’ve been rehearsing all year.
Hanky: And I’m very good at it.
Fawn: Nobody’s arguing that!

The Cats: A Warrior Princess and Her Mane Man
Fawn: What about you two spoiled indoor kitties?
Bonnie: I know! I’m going to be a warrior princess. Mommy calls me that because I fought FIP and won!
Cooper: (kisses her head) You’ve certainly earned that costume.
Bonnie: Thank you. I’ll need a crown. And possibly a victory parade!
Cooper: What should I be? I’m pretty laid-back.
Bonnie: You’re my big brother.
Cooper: Is there a big-brother costume?
Dusty: I think that’s just you, wearing you.
Cooper: I like being me. I’m a happy big boy. I love everybody. And I look after my little sister.
Cisco: How about a lion? A magnificent mane. A royal presence. A fierce protector.
Bonnie: Excellent napping skills.
Cooper: Now you’re talking!
Bonnie: And I can still curl up beside you.
Cooper: Then a lion it is! But no roaring during nap time.

The Birds: A Little Buzz and a Lot of Flutter
Chickens: Excuse us! What about us? We’d like extra corn!
Dusty: Hmm. You’re little. You’re busy. You’re always digging around…
Cisco: Bees!
Dusty: Bees?
Cisco: Busy bees!
Chickens: Will there still be corn?
Cisco: I don’t see why not.
Chickens: Then we accept!
Cisco: And the ducks can be butterflies!
Ducks: We’d be lovely butterflies.
Dusty: With webbed feet?
Ducks: We’ll be a limited edition!
Chickens: Bees and butterflies! Thanks, Cisco!
Dusty: You’re cracked, Cisco.
Cisco: Careful, Pirate. That’s your commanding officer you’re talking to!
Dusty: Nice try. Now, where’s Mom with the treats?

And that’s how Halloween planning went around here. We have costumes, we have demands, and we have absolutely no volunteers to pay for the treats.
Who gets your vote for best costume? And who’s most likely to eat the prize?
Our Halloween wardrobe comes courtesy of Adobe Firefly. Because I don’t dare try this in real life!
The personalities? Entirely their own.
